As we slowly inch our way through our second consecutive year in this global pandemic, interior design trends seem to once again highlight colors and textures that make us feel emotionally balanced at home. And since we’re all practically spending the same amount of time in our homes as we might in the office, this new down-to-earth trend makes sense. People want their homes to be a sanctuary. Somewhere they can spend hours on end, feeling relaxed and at peace. New research even suggests that our homes not only directly influence our moods, but our overall health and well-being as well. Which begs the question, how are you actively creating an emotionally positive space this year? If you’re not too sure, that’s where we come in. Here’s your chance to get inspired by where we’re headed with interior design in 2022.
Design Trend #1: Warmer Tones
Out with pastels and in with the warm shades of brown and a color palette reminiscent of the natural world. From cognac to burnt umber, this year, we’re incorporating shades of brown and warm tones in everything from upholstery to accessories and woods.
Design Trend #2: Lots of Natural Finishes and Textures
Natural finishes and textures are also in. Think porous stoneware, terracotta, and honed, matte marble versus the traditional polished display. Raw and imperfect, these natural materials bring in a sense of depth and visual intrigue while mimicking the calming feel of the outdoors.
Quite frankly, we’ve been on this “natural finish” trend for a while now and love using Lime Paint by Pure & Original anytime it comes to adding texture to our walls. Made by combining water with slaked lime, lime paint has been around for quite a while now (aka hundreds of years). And, keeping with the natural feel that we’re headed in for 2022, it’s right on par. The paint supposedly absorbs the CO2 from the air, functioning the same way as trees in nature. To be honest, we’re not 100% sure of the science here, but that’s what Pure & Original claims. Either way, we’re sold on this overall natural look and its ability to transform just about any room.
Design Trend #3: Arches and Curves
Finally, arches, curves, and organic shapes are here to stay. Arches visually draw attention to the height of your walls and make your rooms feel more spacious. Which is exactly what anyone staying at home all day wants – more space.
The great part about these shapes is that they even look good if you decide to do absolutely nothing to them. They’re a character all on their own. Arches, for instance, immediately add a romantic, old-world feel while organic shapes subconsciously read as safe, friendly, and welcoming. Who wouldn’t want their home to feel more safe, more friendly, and more welcoming?
Wrapping Up
While interior design trends tell us where the industry is headed, they are not written in stone. At the end of the day, your home is exactly that… your home. Use these trends as guides to create an emotionally positive environment for you and your family – and never be afraid to add your own flair.
