The Union Remodel

When our clients approached us about reimagining the main floor of their century-old South Shore home, they had been dreaming about this renovation for years. Their goal was clear: to create a space that felt functional, connected, and elevated while celebrating the home’s character.

Reimagining the Layout

After many iterations, we landed on a design that placed the kitchen at the heart of the home. This choice required relocating a structural column, but the result was well worth it. The new kitchen now serves as the anchor between a long double living room and a cozy dinette.

The dinette, featuring a custom banquette, has quickly become a family favourite. It’s the perfect nook where the kids curl up to do homework after school while mom prepares dinner nearby – proof that thoughtful design can bring beauty and practicality together.

Turning a Challenge Into a Feature

Optimizing the kitchen meant that the mudroom would now open directly into the dining room. Rather than treating this as an inconvenience, we decided to highlight it. The mudroom was designed as a statement piece, intentionally grounding the end of the dining space. Behind beautiful French white oak double doors lies a moody, custom-cabinetry-lined mudroom that is as functional as it is dramatic.

A Powder Room With Personality

The powder room became another opportunity to elevate the unexpected. At just a few square feet, it’s one of the smallest we’ve ever designed – proof that small doesn’t have to mean boring. A custom concrete wall-mounted vanity with softened curves makes the space functional without blocking the entry. The finishes were carefully chosen to make a big impact: pill-shaped marble mosaic tiles that echo the vanity’s curves, walls wrapped in a sophisticated navy with a subtle nautical feel (inspired by the room’s original octagonal window), and a delicate floral wallpaper border at the ceiling for a feminine lift.
