AIN’T NADA BUT A RENO PROJECT

When we first met Nada and Michel, we knew we were going to have fun on this project. Our first consultation was held in their newly purchased, empty home, where we did a full walkthrough noting all of the elements that they wanted to change. Nada and Michel are a young couple who just started their family and had a clear vision of what they wanted their home to look and feel like. They trusted in our expertise from day one and accounted for all of the suggestions we made during that initial walkthrough. The home had good bones with a kitchen that wasn’t necessarily their taste, but was fairly new and in great condition. The mandate included sanding and staining all of the floors, painting throughout and giving the kitchen a small facelift by changing the backsplash, lighting, and hardware. They also completely finished their basement and added a basement bathroom along with a crafts section and full gym. The largest transformation however were the two upstairs bathrooms which were both fully remodelled.

Although Nada and Michel knew what they wanted their space to feel like, they gave us free rein for the overall style and direction. They didn’t have any specific request for colours, finishes, and aesthetics, so we had fun putting together their concepts. During our presentation, they were so happy with what we produced that they actually applauded which was a first that we totally treasured! A lot of work and many hours go into preparing the design for any space so when our clients are this appreciative, we really take it all in.

The realization phase of this project definitely had its share of bumps in the road and our clients were so understanding and patient throughout the lengthy process of bringing the concept to fruition. When ordering product, we do everything that we can do to avoid any hiccups. We are selective with the suppliers we work with based on their track record of providing a reliable product and service. We also double check that all orders are accurate, we track shipments, coordinate deliveries, and we verify product when it arrives to make sure that everything is in good order. Well in this case, we had a record number of deficiencies with products ordered. It was simply bad luck since it came from suppliers that we often work with. Some projects have little to no quality issues and others, like this one was really non stop. Our Monday meetings were dedicated to figuring out what was going wrong with the products received on this project. To give you just a few examples; one vanity came in damaged, the other one went missing in delivery. The mirrors we ordered came in the wrong size and finish despite the order being correct. One of the light fixtures was backordered, which we only found out about after waiting for it for weeks. It was really absurd. To the point that we celebrated with cocktails the moment we found out that the last product was received in good condition!

Nonetheless, the results and the smiles on our client’s faces made all of these struggles disappear.
